The Central England Branch of the Nuclear Institute would like to welcome you for a talk exploring the materials, engineering and research behind the long-term disposal of high-level radioactive waste and spent fuel.

Mohamed Koronfel, Senior Corrosion Consultant, Waste Management and Disposal at Amentum, will take us inside the engineered barrier systems being developed for Geological Disposal Facilities around the world.

The session will explore how metallic disposal containers interact with materials such as bentonite and cement, and the extensive research used to demonstrate their long-term durability – from 20-year laboratory experiments to multi-year testing in underground research facilities.
