Quantopticon is a software start-up providing simulation solutions for quantum photonics. The company is one of a handful of high-potential quantum start-ups incubated at the prestigious Quantum Business Incubation Centre at Harwell. In close collaboration with the incubator staff, STFC and the Quantum Cluster manager, we are implementing a growth plan that will hire key talent, promote the uptake of our software by the quantum community and help the company to become a prosperous, self-sustaining business.
Quantopticon develops the world’s first automated simulation platform for design and optimisation of quantum-photonic components: the building blocks of quantum computers, quantum sensors and quantum networks. Called Quantillion, our state-of-the-art tool enables hardware engineers to build high-quality, scalable quantum light sources, solid-state qubit registers, quantum memories, and more – in a fraction of the time and cost possible with competing methods.
Developed in-house from first principles over the course of 20 years by our team of world-leading multidisciplinary experts, Quantillion is underpinned by a ground-breaking patented algorithm uniquely capable of making accurate and complete predictions of the behaviour of quantum devices controlled by light. Operating at the physical layer of the design stack, Quantillion, is equipped with a library of quantum systems, photonic structures and other user-selectable features, which empowers hardware engineers to construct a virtual model of their quantum-photonic device and subsequently run a simulation to identify the optimal device geometries, materials and driving pulses that yield maximum performance. Eliminating the need to iterate on a physical prototype, Quantillion thus slashes component development costs by up to $250,000 and timelines by 24 weeks, helping commercial users to launch their product on the market sooner whilst capturing larger revenues.
