Join us for a special evening celebrating this summer’s partial solar eclipse.

Date & time: Wednesday 12th August, 18:00 – 19:00

The event will begin with an introduction to eclipses and solar science from Professor Richard Harrison, a leading experts in solar physics and a key contributor to many international solar missions.

We’ll then be linking live to the RRS Sir David Attenborough, the British Antarctic Survey’s research vessel, which will be positioned in waters around Greenland and in the path of totality. As well as experiencing the eclipse live, you’ll hear about the fascinating science taking place aboard this floating laboratory and what life is like at sea for researchers.

In-person attendance

Alongside the online event, we’ll also be welcoming visitors to Rutherford Appleton Laboratory on 12th August to experience the solar eclipse together.

Location: Rutherford Applieton Laboratory, Harwell Campus

This special in-person Summer Stargazing event features hands-on activities, solar observing and a live link to the RRS Sir David Attenborough for the total solar eclipse.
