The 2024 Cup Challenge
Celebrating Team Spirit
The annual Campus Challenge event sees teams from our community take on a series of intellectual and physical challenges to try and win the coveted Yellow Cup.
On July 10th, a record number of teams tackled creative tasks – showcasing their ingenuity through creating a team banner and constructing impressive weight-bearing bridges from straws. The scientific and engineering nous of the campus was deeply impressive, resulting in some very impressive bridge designs. A special shout-out goes to The Zappers, who managed an impressive 18.5 kgs of weight on their bridge, and to Team Milford for their duck-themed ingenuity.
For the second stage of the challenge the teams took on physical challenges. From inflatable relay races to 5 minute volleyball matches their communication and co-ordination skills were tested to the limit. As points were partly based on the number of spectators there was a large turnout, no doubt encouraged by free ice cream and a rock choir.
Congratulations to The Zappers from STFC, the winning team, whose outstanding performance across all the tasks earned them victory. In a nail-biting finish, they narrowly edged out La Cucaracha from MDA Space, who put up an impressive fight to claim a very close second place. Kudos to Element Six for inviting back their work experience students to take part in the final, giving them a unique view on their future careers and to everyone who took part, you truly embodied the spirit of our amazing campus community.
Thank you to everyone who participated and supported and I look forward to seeing you all back next year for the 2025 edition.
