Harwell Campus Remembers D-Day

6th June 2020 | Harwell People

Harwell Campus Remembers D-Day

On 5th June 1944, the eve of D-Day, Airspeed Horsa gliders were towed up from RAF Harwell, with Normandy in their sights, carrying the Pathfinders who helped pave the way for the D-Day landings the following day. Many did not survive the war and each year Harwell holds a remembance service at the Harwell Memorial Stone for all the men and women who fought for our freedom today.

This year the Harwell Royal British Legion and friends are unable to hold the annual D-Day Memorial Service at Harwell Campus due to COVID-19 restrictions.

As a mark of respect for the 76th anniversary of D-Day on 6th June and its key place in Harwell’s heritage, the Campus Management team and contributors have joined up to create a special video to commemorate the 2020 anniversary, ensuring We Will Remember Them.
