Harwell D-Day Remembrance Service

On the evening of 5th June 1944 as the last glow of twilight faded from the western sky, six Abermarles of No 38 Group RAF took off from the Harwell airfield carrying parachute troops as pathfinders for the 6th British Airborne Division’s landing in Normandy. Early on 6th June (D-day) an armada of aircraft, many towing gliders packed with men and equipment, took off from Harwell in support of the seaborne landings on the Normandy coast. Reinforcements were sent on successive days.

After a virtual service last year, on Saturday 5th June 2021 a small group gathered at the Harwell Stone to commemorate the 77th Anniversary of D-Day.
