Saving the World – Careers in Sustainability

6th May 2026, 5:00 – 6:00 pm

Our planet is at a critical juncture and faces a host of pressures that affect us all, including widespread pollution, climate change and biodiversity loss. As a result there are a rapidly growing number of careers to combat these global problems and careers in sustainability are one of the fastest growing areas of the UK and worldwide economy. However, they occur across a wide range of fields and disciplines such that roles can be challenging to find and it can be difficult to understand how to move from a degree to a sustainability role.

This event will showcase experts working in sustainable careers across several sectors, from academics to some of the world’s most exciting startups and renewable energy operators.

Date: Wednesday 6th May 2026

Time: 17:00

Venue: St Cross Lecture Theatre, Oxford

Each panel member will present the pathway they took to reach their current role, what they learnt along the way and the opportunities that they see emerging for today’s graduates. This will be followed by a Q&A. If you’re considering a career in sustainability, this event is for you.

The panellists are:

  • Beth Allum – Oxford Photovoltaics Ltd
  • Dr Thomas Harwood – Associate Director, Environmental Change Institute, Oxford
  • Dr Alex Money – Smith School of Enterprise and Environment
  • Susannah Grice – National Energy System Operator
  • Tim Lennox – Department for Energy Security and Net Zero
