Harwell Connect: RAL Particle Physics Department

9th July 2026, 3:30 – 5:00 pm

Step behind-the-scenes of one of the UK’s most exciting scientific areas at this Harwell Connect event hosted by the RAL Particle Physics Department (PPD).

Date: Thursday 9th July

Time: 15:30 -17:00

Venue: RAL Visitor Centre R100, Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, Harwell Campus

This event is open to campus members only.

At RAL PPD, a team of around 100 scientists, engineers and specialists are pushing the boundaries of what we know about the universe. Their work goes far beyond the lab – designing, building, and operating cutting-edge detectors used in world-leading experiments across the globe.

From CERN and Fermilab to major research programmes in Japan, the PPD team are at the heart of international collaborations exploring the fundamental building blocks of matter. Their expertise spans advanced engineering, large-scale detector construction, high-performance computing, and complex data analysis – all supporting groundbreaking discoveries and the wider UK particle physics community.

This event is your opportunity to discover how these innovations come to life, meet the experts, explore the technology, and gain insight into the research shaping our understanding of the universe.

You will also hear from STFC’s Industrial Liaison Office about how UK companies and organisations can win contracts at CERN.

Short facility tours will be available to a limited number of guests. Express your interest in a tour at registration.

Limited spaces available – registration via the Member of the Future app.
